Job Summary and Responsibilities

Cardiac Monitor Specialist provides continuous observation of monitored ECG patterns of patients on telemetry and reports significant information to appropriate nursing personnel; functions within a designated area in close observation in the monitoring of patients. Responsible for responding to all alarms detected, while working with a diverse care team. Is held accountable for policies and procedures of the department and organization. This position supports the mission, vision and philosophy of CommonSpirit.

  • Continuous observation of monitored ECG patterns and pulse oximetry as ordered. Sets up, calibrates and maintains settings and alarms on the telemetry module. Obtains rhythm strip at beginning of shift, on admission and whenever changes occur.
  • Recognizes changes in rate, rhythm or pattern and obtains a documentary ECG strip; immediately reports all arrhythmias to the care team responsible for the patient in accordance with established protocols.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing communications, answers questions and assists staff in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the technical operation and capabilities of the central monitoring station;
  • Maintains alarm systems according to established protocols and responds appropriately to monitor alarms;
  • Identifies/troubleshoots routine technical problems with the monitors and sends work orders. 

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate, upon hire or
  • High School GED, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 90 Days
