Job description:
In collaboration with the trauma program manager, the RN Trauma Program Specialist will sit at Penrose hospital and is responsible for performing key elements of the trauma program including evaluation of patient care, clinical and operational performance improvement activities, development and refinement of evidence-based guidelines, and trauma education to support regulatory compliance and optimal patient outcomes.
Job Responsibilities:
• Collaborates with the trauma program manager to develop and execute performance improvement processes that support optimal outcomes for trauma patients.
• Performs concurrent process improvement and evaluation of trauma care throughout the continuum, from pre-hospital, emergency room, operative, inpatient and discharge.
• Assesses compliance with trauma protocols and guidelines by observation and chart review.
• Reviews trauma team activations and assesses for appropriateness based on established criteria.
• Tracks findings within the trauma process improvement program and documents loop closure of any findings.
• Participates in multidisciplinary patient rounds as part of concurrent review process.
• Monitors patient progress through the continuum of care for ongoing identification of potential care issues and facilitates timely resolution through communication and collaboration with the
care team.
• Actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and projects.
• Collaborates with hospital department leaders and key stakeholders to facilitate trauma program processes.
• Assists with preparation for State and ACS trauma designation and verification reviews.
• Assists in training trauma staff and other hospital personnel.
• Acts as a resource for new staff members and co-workers by sharing information and providing education.
• May respond to trauma activations and assist with documentation, MTP recording, equipment, procedures, or other tasks delegated that are within his/her scope of practice.
• May provide trauma related education related to current care issues as needed.
• May participate in community activities related to trauma care and injury prevention as needed.
• May assist with Trauma Survivor Network activities as needed.
• Continuously enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops to remain current with industry changes.
• Adheres to professional code of ethics and to all accreditation and regulatory requirements.
• Adapts rapidly to changing technologies, policies, regulations, census and staffing through priority setting and flexibility.

Minimum Experience Requirements:
3 years recent hospital experience
1 year in a critical care area (ICU or Emergency Department)
Basic computer skills
Membership to a related professional organization preferred (Society of Trauma Nurses, Emergency Nurses Association, American Association of Critical Care Nurses), preferred
Education Requirement:
Associates Nursing Degree Required: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
BSN preferred
License/Certifications Requirement:
Current CO RN license
BLS required from AHA
TNCC required upon hire or within one year of hire/transfer
Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work -(prolonged periods of sitting and exert up to 10lbs force occasionally)
