Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Family Birth Center (FBC) Registered Nurse (RN) at Mercy San Juan Medical Center, you will be a pivotal healthcare professional, delivering compassionate, high-quality care so you can significantly impact our patients' well-being and recovery. Our Family Birth Center operates as the Level 3 High Risk Facility for the greater Sacramento Dignity Hospitals. It is comprehensively equipped with 28 beds, including 12 labor beds, 2 Operating Rooms, a 2-patient PACU, 2 triage bays, and a 14-bed private Mother-Baby unit. We are proud to be Joint Commission Certified for Perinatal Care and committed to the 10 steps for successful breastfeeding. As a high-risk facility, we frequently receive antepartum patient transfers from across Northern California. We average 150 deliveries monthly, supported by a robust team including Nurse Shift Managers, a Perinatal Safety Specialist, a Perinatal Certified Nurse Specialist, an in-house OB hospitalist, and a designated OB anesthesiologist. Furthermore, our Level III NICU is conveniently adjoined to our FBC, providing essential support. 

 

Every day, you will leverage your expertise to provide individualized, comprehensive care, making critical assessments, performing skilled procedures, and meticulously implementing patient care plans for our diverse patient population. You will be expected to collaborate seamlessly within an interdisciplinary team, contributing to a dynamic environment focused on optimal patient outcomes, particularly in our high-risk setting. Your role will involve close coordination with our dedicated support staff, ensuring the highest level of care for every patient.

  • Assessment: Performs total body and system assessment each shift/visit according to unit standards.
  • Care of Patient: Including planning, implementing, evaluating and educating.
  • Clinical/Technical Skills: Utilizes technology, procedures, protocols, standards and interventions specific to the assigned unit.
  • Documentation: Performs legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures. Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.
  • Leadership: Accepts responsibility and accountability for own decisions and behaviors. Recognizes, accepts and cooperates with direction from facility leadership.
  • Precepting/Mentoring: Participates in orientation of new staff, ancillary personnel and mentors students in a constructive and positive manner. Serves as a resource to staff from other nursing departments.

Job Requirements

 

Required

  • Minimum One (1) year of Labor & Delivery and Postpartum RN experience from an accredited hospital
  • Fetal monitoring experience 
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association
  • Current NRP certificate
  • NCC fetal monitoring certificate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring course completion within twelve (12) months of hire.

Preferred:

  • Cesarean Section experience
