CHI St. Alexius Health Turtle Lake is a 25 bed critical access hospital with a Level V Emergency Department that is available 24 hours a day. Our hospital has been committed to providing patients quality medical treatment in the Turtle Lake area and surrounding communities since 1952. Through the years, the hospital has sought to continually upgrade the quality and numbers of services it provides. The hospital's affiliation with major medical centers and health care agencies has allowed it to expand its health care services through a network that begins at the local level. CHI St. Alexius Health Turtle Lake is equipped with 2 emergency rooms, on-site lab, radiology, CT and physical therapy services. Our patients have access to 24/7 emergency care, swing-bed programs, and acute care services.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will help our patients by providing nursing care to our skilled nursing residents under the direction of the physician or registered nurse. Every day you will work with our patients to evaluate their needs and provide physical or psychosocial care. To be successful in this role, you must have a genuine compassion for your patients’ well-being and understand the role you play in helping our our patients feel at ease. You also have the patience to explain the process, answer questions and update documentation. 

  • Patient Admissions & Care Planning: Collaborates with the Charge Nurse on admission orders and medication sheets, assists in developing and updating care plans based on patient condition changes
  • Patient Assessment & Reporting: Performs assessments when notified of patient condition changes, reporting findings to the Charge Nurse and providers as requested
  • Medication Management: Dispenses oral medications, administers IV, IM, and subcutaneous medications under RN supervision, reports medication errors, conducts narcotic counts, and gives inhalation therapy
  • Discharges & Care Level Changes: Notifies pharmacy of patient status changes, supervises patient/caregiver education, arranges follow-up care, removes devices, and ensures home medications are returned during discharge
  • Emergency Care & Skills: Assists in ER/treatment room care, gathers patient information, calls for additional help during emergencies, and performs skilled procedures like IVs, catheterization, and dressing changes under RN supervision
  • Documentation & Infection Control: Completes all necessary documentation, including medication, treatment, and acute/swing bed conditions, maintains patient Kardex, performs safety checks, and logs/reports infectious incidents while ensuring isolation precautions

Job Requirements

Required

 

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing
  • ND State Board of Nursing current LPN License. (Licensed to practice as a licensed practical nurse in the state of ND or in a compact state. Graduate Practical Nurse (G.P.N.) must practice under the supervision of a registered nurse while the work authorization to practice is valid).
