Job Summary and Responsibilities

The HIV/STD Disease Intervention Specialist will report to the CARE Center Clinical Services Manager, and work closely with the City of Long Beach HIV/STD Surveillance Program. This position will conduct HIV/STD disease investigations and provide partner services for individuals newly infected with chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV. This position will be based in the CARE Medical Clinic, and will support CARE Center clinicians and St. Mary Emergency Department clinicians. This position will team with CARE HIV-STD testing, Biomedical Prevention and Linkage/Retention staff.

 

  • Provides HIV and STD case investigation, partner counseling and referral services to individuals infected with HIV and other STDs.
  • Conducts field investigations to locate and contact those with HIV/STD infections or potential infections.
  • Conducts follow-ups and referrals to ensure examination and treatment for those with HIV/STD infections, as well as those at risk for exposure to HIV/STDS.
  • Provides HIV/STD testing and counseling to promote health risk education and behavioral changes to reduce risk.
  • Collaborates with CARE Center providers as well as community providers to facilitate linkage to social, medical, mental health, substance abuse and other services.

Job Requirements

Required

  • High School Graduate
  • Two years of experience providing community health education services (academic degrees in Public Health,Health Sciences or a closely related fieldmay be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis)
  • Effective patient communication & interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills proficiency in Microsoft Office & Google Workspace software.


Preferred

  • HIV/AIDS related clinical experience
  • Outpatient Clinic experience
  • Knowledge & experience working with behavioral risk groups including active drug users & LGBQT Community
  • Bachelors Other in Public Health,Health Sciences, or a closely related field
