Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Region VP, Public Policy and Government Relations, you will work in concert with regional presidents and relevant system leadership to shape and lead the development and implementation of advocacy and public policy initiatives with governmental branches. You will serve as a primary liaison with government officials.

Every day, you will coordinate appropriate stakeholders internally and externally to facilitate attainment of the organization's public policy goals. This role requires balancing an array of high visibility responsibilities under continuous time and performance pressures, involving strategic engagement, legislative analysis, and effective communication to advance the organization's interests and mission within the complex political landscape.

To be successful in this role, you will bring strong public policy and advocacy experience, exceptional relationship-building skills, and the ability to influence across government, healthcare, and executive leadership. You will be comfortable navigating complex and sensitive issues, communicating effectively with senior stakeholders, and moving between high-level strategy and hands-on advocacy. Knowledge of California’s legislative environment and healthcare policy landscape will position you for success.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with senior government and elected officials.
  • Builds strategic partnerships statewide to promote Dignity Health’s advocacy agenda
  • Identify, track and develop advocacy strategies on California legislative measures, including leading and engaging hospital-level policy advocacy liaisons (PALs) on grassroots advocacy.
  • Analyze and determine system positions on California legislation and regulatory proposals.
  • Creates and manages testimony and submits comment letters on CA issues important to the mission.
  • Serve as lead contact with the California Hospital Association, the Alliance of Catholic Health Care and PEACH; share operational impacts and influence policy positions and strategies.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of policy and/or advocacy experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop advocacy strategies, cultivate influential stakeholder relationships, and communicate effectively with senior leaders and external audiences.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in hospital administration, healthcare administration, business administration, or a related field.
  • Healthcare advocacy experience strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of the California legislative process.
  • Knowledge of the Medi-Cal program and California hospital seismic safety standards.
