The Utilization Review Nurse plays a crucial role in coordinating patient care and ensuring appropriate resource utilization. Their primary responsibilities include facilitating effective communication regarding patient care plans and securing authorization numbers/certification for each patient's approved length of stay. They work in close collaboration with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to optimize patient outcomes by ensuring access to the right treatment utilizing available hospital resources in the most cost-effective manner. The Utilization Review Nurse also actively monitors changes in the patient's condition, assessing treatment efficacy and proactively communicating updates to the payer organization.
