Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our RN Renal Dialysis, you will help hospitalized patients with kidney failure or acute kidney injuries receive life-saving blood-filtering treatments so they can improve their health outcomes and manage their complex renal conditions.

 

Everyday you will set up dialysis machines, cannulate vascular access sites, and closely monitor vital signs. You will be expected to assess patients before, during, and after dialysis, administer medications, adjust treatments based on lab results, and respond to complications.

 

To be successful in this role, you must possess a full understanding of dialysis treatments, adhere to hospital policies, and demonstrate behavior consistent with the Mission and Core Values of Community Hospital of San Bernardino.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Dialysis Machine Setup & Maintenance: Prepare and calibrate dialysis machines, ensuring sterility and safety of water systems and tubing, and setting up all related essential equipment for the dialysis procedure.
  • Comprehensive Patient Assessment & Monitoring: Assess patients before, during, and after dialysis, including checking weight, blood pressure, and vascular access sites, carefully monitoring vital signs, and utilizing age-specific considerations and documentation.
  • Treatment Administration & Management: Initiate, discontinue, and continuously monitor patients on dialysis, accurately controlling blood flow rates and fluid removal goals, and adjusting treatments based on patient response and lab results.
  • Complication Identification & Intervention: Proactively identify dialysis-related complications (e.g., drops in blood pressure, muscle cramps, clotting), respond quickly, notify the primary Nephrologist, and take appropriate action as ordered.
  • Medication Administration & Sample Collection: Administer medications and obtain necessary specimens for laboratory purposes in coordination with the patient's primary floor nurse.
  • Team Collaboration & Patient Education: Work directly with nephrologists, dietitians, and social workers to coordinate comprehensive care plans, and educate patients and their families about kidney disease, diet, and fluid restrictions, while demonstrating patient satisfaction through AIDET principles.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years experience in an acute and/or chronic dialysis unit required. 
  • Registered Nurse: CA, upon hire and
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, upon hire
