Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our OB Registered Nurse (RN), you will help expectant mothers, laboring parents, and their newborns throughout the perinatal journey receive comprehensive, compassionate care so they can experience safe childbirth, a healthy recovery, and a confident transition into parenthood.

Everyday you will monitor maternal and fetal well-being, manage labor progression, and provide immediate postpartum and newborn care. You will be expected to collaborate on comprehensive screenings (e.g., prenatal, labor assessments), conduct critical risk assessments (e.g., fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage risk), provide vital preventative health education (e.g., birth plan discussion, breastfeeding initiation), and expertly coordinate care for diverse patient populations, leveraging technology to streamline processes.

To be successful in this role, you must combine robust clinical knowledge of obstetrics and neonatology, technological proficiency (e.g., FHM, epidural management), genuine compassion, strong communication skills (e.g., labor coaching, family support), and an adaptable approach to learning and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities:

  • Comprehensive Perinatal Assessment & Care Planning: Greet patients, verify identity and consent, and conduct thorough assessments upon admission and throughout the labor, delivery, and postpartum phases, developing and modifying age-appropriate care plans based on maternal and fetal status.
  • Labor & Delivery Management: Continuously monitor maternal vital signs, contraction patterns, and fetal heart rates, identify and respond to changes, and provide supportive interventions and pain management during labor and delivery.
  • Postpartum & Newborn Care: Provide immediate care to mothers post-delivery, monitor for postpartum complications, and deliver initial newborn care, including assessments and promoting bonding and breastfeeding.
  • Documentation & Communication: Accurately document all patient information, assessments, interventions, and lab results, ensuring timely communication with physicians regarding patient status, especially abnormal findings.
  • Patient & Family Education & Support: Explain procedures, verify understanding of the birth plan and care, provide vital health education related to childbirth and newborn care, and offer emotional support to patients and families throughout their experience.
  • Safe Environment & Infection Control: Prepare labor and delivery suites in accordance with medical center aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines, ensuring a safe environment for all patients.
