Job Summary and Responsibilities

Registered Nurse - Inpatient Women's Maternity (Postpartum)

 

As our Inpatient Women's Maternity (Postpartum) Registered Nurse, you will provide compassionate and specialized care to new mothers and their newborns, guiding them through the crucial postpartum period and empowering them for a healthy transition home. Every day you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized care for mothers recovering from childbirth and for their newborns, focusing on both physical and emotional well-being. You will be expected to supervise care according to policies, procedures, and the State Nurse Practice Act. To be successful in this role, you must be a nurturing and skilled caregiver, adept at educating new families and supporting them through this transformative time, while adhering to established standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for postpartum mothers, conducting assessments of physical recovery from vaginal or Cesarean birth, monitoring vital signs, pain levels, fundal height, and identifying potential complications.
  • Provide holistic care for newborns, including comprehensive assessments, vital sign monitoring, feeding support (breastfeeding and bottle feeding), initial infant education, and identification of any newborn concerns or anomalies.
  • Implement and manage individualized care plans for mothers and newborns, ensuring safe medication administration, effective pain management, wound care, and addressing emotional and psychological adjustments to parenthood.
  • Collaborate effectively with obstetricians, pediatricians, lactation consultants, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care, address family needs, and facilitate a smooth transition home.
  • Provide extensive education to new parents on postpartum recovery, newborn care, safe sleep practices, feeding techniques, infant safety, and recognizing signs of distress in both mother and baby.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all maternal and newborn assessments, interventions, medications, and responses, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements for safe maternity care.

& THIS JOB OFFERS BOTH AN INCENTIVE AND RELOCATION: We are offering a $17,500 Sign-On Bonus in addition to relocation to new hires who meet the eligibility requirements.


Union Work Agreement:

Shift Type: Rotating (Days and Nights)

Shift Length: 12 hours

On call expectations: No call

Weekend/Holiday Frequency: Every 3rd weekend

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Nursing Degree from an approved school of nursing
  • 1-2 Years Of Inpatient Maternity, Postpartum, or Mother/Baby Nursing Experience REQUIRED
  • Active Registered Nurse license in good standing with the North Dakota Board of Nursing or Active Registered Nurse license in a compact state
  • Working knowledge of postpartum maternal care, newborn assessment, breastfeeding physiology, and family-centered maternity care principles
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within the orientation period and meets re-certification as required
  • Good communication skills necessary for constant communication, both oral and written, with patients, families, visitors, and medical center staff
  • Accountable for own conduct and promotes and supports positive working relationships among staff, between other disciplines, departments, families, visitors, and patients
  • Maintains confidentiality
