Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Nurse Shift Manager, you'll oversee a department of frontline nurses caring for patients. Your previous experience in acute care, LTC, or nursing homes adds tremendous value to our nursing team.

Every day you will advocate for your fellow nurses as you support them in reaching their full potential, which aligns with your department's operational goals and objectives.

To thrive in this role, you need to be accountable and confident. You're an excellent communicator in one-on-one interactions and in front of groups. It's also important for you to be comfortable holding tough conversations, as you are responsible for the performance of your people and your unit.

  • Supervises nursing staff assigned to a particular shift. Assigns patients to available nursing staff, taking into consideration the patient's condition and the employee's skill level.
  • Assesses, monitors, and educates the nursing staff on patient care. Institutes emergency procedures as necessary.
  • Anticipates staffing needs and moves proactively to respond to them.
  • Oversees stocking of supplies and updating patient records to ensure that the nursing floor is ready for subsequent shifts.
  • Rewards department staff through awards and recognition.
  • Acts as a primary liaison to Medical Staff and other personnel.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Associates Of Science Nursing and minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience as a registered nurse AND
  • Bachelors Of Science Nursing or health related field and clinical supervisory and leadership experience
  • Will consider candidates currently enrolled in Bachelor's program with anticipated completion date within 18 months from hire date AND have at least three years acute hospital experience (two of these years with the last five must be in ICU, Intermediatte Care or unit similar to ICU)
  • At least one year of charge nurse or nursing management experience within the last five years
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification - American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification - American Heart Association

Preferred

  • Previous experience in organized labor environment and
  • Experience managing productivity, time and attendance, and employee performance issues
