Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Health Unit Coordinator (HUC), you will serve as the central administrative and communication hub for the nursing station, ensuring efficient patient flow and supportive operations.

Every day you will perform clerical/reception duties, manage supply/equipment requests, and handle admissions, discharges, and transfers. You'll maintain records, check charts, obtain documents, and process/transfer orders. You will also answer call lights and incoming calls, directing them appropriately, and may assist with medication retrieval/delivery.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and rapid multitasking. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential for interacting with patients, families, and the healthcare team, with a strong commitment to supporting patient care.

  • Serves as communications person, answering phone calls, taking and relaying messages
  • Assists with pre-admission patient requirements for admissions and swing bed patients (room assignment, prior authorizations, admission order entry, providing documentation of stay) and patient registrations.
  • Completes insurance related prior authorizations as indicated.
  • Receives and directs visitors and family members (must be an excellent customer service representative).
  • Functions as care giver as assigned by RN. There are times when the HUC will assist patients in the Med-Surge Area/Emergency Department Area.
  • Provides for review of patient chart and enters charges for supplies, equipment and medications.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Certified Nursing Assistant: MN, within 6 - months
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 30 Days


Preferred

  • Two to three years of recent acute care work experience
