Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Lactation Professional, you will be a compassionate expert, empowering new parents to achieve their lactation goals and promoting optimal infant nutrition.

Every day, you will provide evidence-based education, assessment, and individualized support prenatally and postpartum. You'll address feeding challenges, develop personalized care plans, and collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure integrated support.

To be successful in this role, you will possess deep clinical knowledge, exceptional communication, empathy, and patience, adapting strategies to individual needs for successful infant feeding and improved health outcomes.

  • Instructs mothers on all tasks necessary to initiate and maintain lactation during the infant’s hospitalization; may include prenatal instruction and post-discharge follow-up
  • Evaluates breastfeeding oral motor mechanics of infants and milk transfer making appropriate recommendations and management strategies
  • Documents observations, assessments and recommendations made during consultation in patient record
  • Performs all tasks necessary to ensure the mother’s adherence to quality control departmental policies related to milk collection, storage and transport
  • Obtains information on maternal medication use and evaluates its compatibility or prohibitive status related to breastfeeding or expressed breast milk feeding
  • Attends continuing education Workshops, seminars and in-services and fulfills all mandatory education requirements as documented on staff development roster

Required

  • Associate Of Nursing Two year’s lactation experience, upon hire
  • Registered Nurse: TX, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program, upon hire
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, upon hire
