Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Lab Assistant, you will play a crucial role in solving diagnostic mysteries, bringing us one step closer to effectively treating patient illnesses and injuries.

Every day you will utilize your expertise and our advanced technology to precisely collect, prepare, and process a diverse range of patient specimens (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) for various diagnostic tests.

To be successful in this role, you will possess a foundational understanding of laboratory procedures, demonstrate meticulous attention to detail, and maintain an eager commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

  • Provides a safe environment for patients, families and customers based on age-specific needs.
  • Accurately labels specimens.
  • Use standard technique, successfully collects blood either by venipuncture or capillary puncture, following established procedures and protocols.
  • Often provides co-worker support with difficult collections.
  • Fully competent in the collection of venipuncture and capillary blood collections on patients including newborns.
  • Successfully collects blood within 2 attempts, at a rate of one collection per 5-10 minutes.
  • Meets goal of 30 minutes from order to in-lab time 80% of the time for STAT draws.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Six (6) months experience in a Microbiology Laboratory and/or Microbiology coursework.
  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory terminology, aseptic technique, laboratory tests and specimen handling and proper safe technique in the handling of hazardous materials and biological specimens.
