Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Clinical Lab Scientist, you will be instrumental in unraveling medical mysteries, providing crucial diagnostic insights that directly impact patient treatment and recovery.

 

Every day, you will perform complex technical analyses across various laboratory disciplines, meticulously verifying results for accuracy and quality assurance. You will operate and maintain sophisticated instrumentation and collaborate closely with laboratory leadership to uphold the highest standards of practice and patient care.

 

To be successful in this role, you will possess exceptional analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and a profound dedication to scientific accuracy in a fast-paced environment. You will demonstrate a strong work ethic, effective communication skills, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure while working as a critical component of the patient care team.

  • Performs clinical laboratory tests according to the standards of this laboratory in one or more areas for which proper training has been made available. Works independently, but seeks help from colleagues, supervisor, or pathologists as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates ability to use independent judgment, but recognizes limits of own knowledge and experience and defers to more experienced technologists when appropriate. Is able to perform infrequently performs tests by utilizing procedur emanuals.
  • To ensure high-quality patient care, confirms that quality control and calibration criteria are met before results are issued.
    Follows quality control out-of-range protocol and documents obtained values including proper explanations and corrective
    actions taken.
  • Responsible for prompt and accurate performance and reporting of all work assigned within established turn-around times. Works consistently and demonstrates the ability to organize and prioritize work to maximize productivity and the quality of patient care. Demonstrates the ability to work well in high volume and STAT conditions.
  • Keeps up to date with new procedures and instrumentation. Performs routine maintenance of instruments in assigned work areas. Documents equipment malfunctions including remedial procedures taken and notifies supervisory and other personnel as appropriate.
  • Recognizes erroneous, inconsistent, redundant, or questionable specimens and/or results and promptly takes corrective action or seeks

Job Requirements

Required

  • Licensure: must possess a valid California license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist. ASCP registration desirable.
  • Experience: completion of Clinical Laboratory Internship and/or recent hospital experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist as a generalist.

     

  • Education: Bachelor's degree plus one year training in a school of Clinical Laboratory Science approved by the California State Department of Public Health or equivalent.
