Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Surgical First Assistant, you will provide critical patient care by directly assisting the surgeon during operative procedures, working under their immediate direction. You will instrumental in ensuring a safe surgical experience through technical support for exposure, hemostasis, and wound closure.

Every day you will collaborate closely with the surgical team, performing duties under the guidance of the operating surgeon, circulating nurse, and reporting to your designated Team Leader. This involves a range of assigned tasks to support the surgical process effectively.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency in assisting the surgeon, maintaining acute awareness of the surgical field and patient safety.
  • Assists with positioning the patient, provide application of surgical antiseptic solution and draping the patient in a standardized sterile fashion.
  • Under physician supervision, may be expected to open and close surgical sites, harvest grafts, assist with hemostasis, dissect and remove tissue, insert devices, alter tissue and other such procedures as requested.
  • Provide assistance in securing drainage systems to tissue and applying appropriate wound dressing.
  • Under professional supervision, may be expected to perform specific significant tasks, which includes applying and removing splints/casts, placing foley catheters, and administering local anesthesia.

Job Requirements

Required
  • Other Graduate from an accredited surgical technology program, upon hire and
  • 1-3 years One year of surgical technician experience, upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, within 14 - days and
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant NASC, upon hire or
  • Certified Surgical First Assistant, upon hire or
  • Certified First Assistant - Certified Surgical Technologists, upon hire and

Preferred
  • 1-3 years One year Surgical Assisting experience, upon hire and
  • Certified Surgical Assistant, upon hire
