Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Phlebotomist, you will competently collect blood and other patient specimens for diagnostic testing, ensuring comfort and safety.

Every day you will identify patients, explain procedures, proficiently perform venipunctures, and accurately label/prepare specimens for laboratory analysis, adhering to safety protocols.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills for accurate diagnostics and patient satisfaction.

  • Performs phlebotomy as needed to ensure quality patient care. Obtains adequate, appropriate specimens from patients of all ages in a timely manner. 
  • Directs and coordinates the activities of other non-licensed personnel when appropriate or requested. Assists phlebotomists in monitoring STAT and add-on tests in a timely manner
  • Under the direct supervision of licensed clinical laboratory scientists or pathologists, operates automated chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, and/or microbiology equipment and analyzers that have been properly calibrated and standardized by licensed personnel.
  • Performs routine equipment maintenance as assigned and supervised by licensed clinical laboratory scientists. Runs quality control and proficiency specimens as directed and supervised by licensed clinical laboratory scientists.
  • Follows written and verbal instructions exactly. Is responsible for prompt and accurate completion of all work assigned.
  • Knows job thoroughly. Recognizes the limitations of this non-licensed position and consistently refers issues involving judgment to licensed clinical laboratory scientists in an appropriate and timely

Job Requirements

Required

  • Must have a valid and current California Certified Phlebotomy Technician I certificate.
  • Must complete required continuing education requirements to maintain State CPT I certification.
  • Three or more years of full-time laboratory experience.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of standard laboratory terminology is preferred.
