Under the direction of a Dermatologist and/or MOHS surgeon, the Dermatology Technician will provide clinical, surgical, and administrative support in an ambulatory care setting. The Dermatology Technician with work with patients seeking care for general, cosmetic, and surgical dermatology, and the Dermatology Technician will make the patient's comfort, safety, and confidentiality the primary concern. Provides direct patient care with rooming and preparing patients for visits, assisting physicians in procedures and surgeries.
Essential Functions
Maintains a caring and supportive attitude towards patients, family members, visitors, providers and co-workers. Leads care team n maintaining a smooth, punctual, and efficient patient flow. Requires energetic, reliable, team player for a busy, fact-pacedpractive.
As a member of the surgical team, provide technical assistance to the physician with procedures and surgeries:
Prepares basic sterile packs and trays, Identifies and selects appropriate packs, trays and accessory/specialty equipment for each procedure.
Prepares the physical procedure exam room, creating the sterile field, preparing supplies and instruments, and maintaining sterile technique during procedure.
Prepares patient for procedure including vitals, positioning, reviewing the procedure, and consent form. Provides procedure and surgery pre-op and post-op education and care instructions directly with the patient.
Takes all medical photography accurately (anatomical site, locations).
Performs local anesthetic injection, per physician order, with the procedure.
Passes correct instruments, supplies and sutures as needed by the physician and assists the physician during procedure if necessary.
Assists in procedures and surgery with skin retraction, blotting, packing abscess wounds, post-procedural bandaging and skin care.
Prepares specimens for submission for pathological analysis.
Performs suture removals and bandaging, independently under the physicians' orders.
For cosmetic procedures, prepares and assists with injections which includes but is not limited to the preparation of the physical reoom, patient including applying topical anesthetic, and ass
Prepares instruments and equipment for eptic procedures.
Assist physicians in the laser suite with laser set up, patient preparation (application of topical numbering), safety precuations and lasser equipment.
Communicate with patients regarding pathology results and treatments. Maintain, monitor and document pathology online databases to ensure patients are being contacted and pathology results are being returned in a timely fashion. Research missing pathology as needed to ensure patient received treatment.
Maintain proper upkeep and cleanliness of exam rooms, including stocking rooms, weekly safety sweeps for expired product, and monthly deep cleaning.
Assists with care coordination by completing tasks including phone messages, patient questions, and scheduling apptointments and medical prior authorization. Cross trained with front office duties including processing payments and insurance updates.
Provide accurate and timely phototherapy light treatment and complete documentations
Required -
Knowledge of radiation protection standards, including basic knowledge of the radiation-sensitive areas of the body and standard methods and devices used for protection in order to assure that adequate safeguards are maintained for patient and self.
Knowledge of areas of basic physics, including the physical concept of energy and the properties of X-rays, electrical power and electric circuits and the theory of X-ray tubes sufficient to understand equipment operation, why and how to deviate from standard settings and how to adapt to operation of specific machines.
Knowledge of the concepts, standards, procedures, technical factors (control settings), machines and accessory equipment relating to radiographic examination and related procedures.
Knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques, including formulas for determining control settings, how to control photographic factors such as density, contrast, detail and distortion, and the use of filters, grids and collimators.
Knowledge of basic anatomy covering such areas as the location of various major organs and the main divisions of the skeletal system sufficient to understand and comply with examination requests.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements relating to radiographic examinations and equipment.
Knowledge of the current technical aspects of patient care in a radiology environment.
Ability to obtain images in accordance with proper radiographic techniques.
Ability to evaluate images for technical quality and to assure proper patient identify is recorded.
Ability to create and maintain timely, efficient and accurate documentation of assigned activities.
Ability to prioritize daily activities to assure efficient operation of patient flow.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the work of the position, including staff, physicians, visitors and other hospital departments.
