Radiation Therapist

CHI Health St. Elizabeth, founded by the Sisters of St. Francis of Perpetual Adoration in 1889, is a full-service, 260-bed, nonprofit regional medical center in Lincoln, Neb. St. Elizabeth specializes in the treatment areas of newborn and pediatric care, women’s health, burn and wound, cardiology, oncology, emergency medicine, orthopedics and neuroscience.

As a Radiation Therapist, you will be responsible for accurately delivering prescribed courses of radiation therapy to cancer patients, ensuring clinical precision and patient comfort.

Every day you will meticulously position patients, operate sophisticated radiation equipment, perform daily quality assurance checks, and carefully monitor patients throughout treatment, providing support and clear communication.

To be successful, you will demonstrate exceptional technical proficiency, meticulous attention to detail, and compassionate patient care, crucial for safe and effective cancer treatment.

• Greets patients utilizing AIDET, verifies patients in identification, reviews charts for proper radiation treatment parameters and physician prescriptions. Informs patients and families about the treatment process and answers questions.
• Prepares patients for treatment. Positions equipment according to plan. Takes portal films or IGRT scans to ensure treatment protocols are accurately set up and followed. Verifies proper dosage of ionizing radiation for patients as prescribed by physicians. Administers treatment to patients.
• Monitors patients throughout the treatment process by checking video monitors and intercom. Informs physician anytime patient experiences distress or side effects related to the treatment process.
• Records each patients’ treatment in EMR and proper notes for accurate treatment and set-up.
• Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate journals, books, and other literature and attending related seminars, conferences and education opportunities.
• As directed by a radiation oncologist, constructs immobilization devices, positions and marks patients during simulation.

Required

• Completion of a JERC accredited Radiation Therapy Program, upon hire
• Registered Technologist Radiation Therapy, within 6 - months
