Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Respiratory Therapist, you will provide essential direct patient care, assessing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory disorders. Your role is vital for improving patient outcomes.

Every day you will assess respiratory status, implement treatment plans (oxygen, ventilation, airway management), and educate patients/families. You'll document interventions and collaborate with physicians and medical staff.

To be successful, you will demonstrate strong clinical skills, critical thinking, and equipment proficiency. Excellent communication for patient interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration, plus a commitment to safety and continuous development, are essential.

  • Calibrates and implements quality control measures for blood gas machines and documents results. Sets up ventilatory support systems monitors and records same; sets up and monitors equipment in clinical practice in all patient care areas including critical care and NICU with direct supervision. Cleans and maintains equipment in good working order.
  • Demonstrates competency in assessing and communicating the patients respiratory needs and clinical status. Responds appropriately to critical or dynamic patient care situations. Responsible for assessing and reassessing patients receiving RT services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in procedures and tasks within the Respiratory Departments scope of practice. Demonstrates proficient technical skills and competence in the performance of Respiratory Therapy by obtaining and using appropriate equipment and supplies. Draws and runs arterial blood gases. Performs pulmonary bedside screening; performance of pulmonary function testing or a willingness to be trained in PFT. Performs EKGs in patient focused care units.
  • Ability to assist with therapeutic and diagnostic bronchoscopies. Demonstrates competency in communicating and assessing the patients respiratory needs and clinical status.
  • Works towards results to create positive change with self and team members: Evaluates own performance and seeks validation resulting in positive change. Provides feedback to peers in a formal and informal review process as a team member expectation. Demonstrates sensitivity to co-workers by providing support as it relates to job performance.
  • Keeps respiratory department manager/supervisor informed of any department/patient incidents and documents these incidents as directed.
  • Answers code blue and emergency calls appropriately.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience in a Community or Reginal NICU
  • Respiratory Care Practitioner: CA, upon hire and
  • American Heart Association BLS - CPR, within 30 Days and
  • American Heart Association PALS, within 30 Days and
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), within 30 Days

Preferred

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Stable Program (STBL)
  • Neonatal-Pediatric Specialty Respiratory Therapist (NPS-NBRC)
