Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Designated Institutional Officer (DIO) for Dignity Health's Central Coast Market, you will serve as the Institutional Leader for the Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria, Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, and St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard, with possible expansions to other locations within the Market in the future. This position is not remote, and will be physically based at one of these 3 hospitals, with routine travel across the Central Coast Market required to engage with site leadership and hospital operations. In this position, you will work in collaboration with the Graduate Medical Education Committee (GMEC), and provide oversight of the Sponsoring Institution's ACGME accredited residency and fellowship programs, to administer the medical education program in accordance with the overall objectives of the organization, and ensure compliance with ACGME requirements and standards, including ensuring the GMEC structure and function, and preparation of the Annual Institutional Review (AIR). You will provide strategic direction and oversight for GME program development and oversee all GME activities at the Sponsoring Institution. You will also oversee the quality and effectiveness of the learning and working environments for residents and fellow physicians, including a commitment to ensuring resident/fellow engagement in patient safety, quality improvement, transitions of care, supervision and accountability, clinical and working hours, professionalism and well-being.

To be successful in this role, you will need to facilitate a culture of continuous quality improvement to include responsibility for maintenance of program accreditation, proactive risk mitigation, and timely reporting/remediation of non-compliance through collaboration with relevant organizational bodies, and lead GME activities at the Sponsoring Institutions through collaborative relationships with academic, educational, hospital, and health system teams and leaders.
