This position is for a fast growing EP and Cath Lab program that is projected to grow rapidly over the next few years. This position is in the pre-procedure/post recovery area and consists of four 10 hour shifts. Currently there is no on-call requirement for this position and no weekends or holidays.
Job Summary:
This job is responsible for providing cath lab nursing care of adult patient populations undergoing cardiac procedures in the cath lab to include inpatient, outpatient and emergent.
Work is performed under standards of safety and care that provide instruction/guidance for taking care of issues and patient needs in the absence of a physician. Requires the use of judgment and critical thinking skills in making decisions regarding patient care (within the scope of practice), including knowledge and integration of available standards, resources and data, and in the efficient utilization of staff/resources. Work involves continuous contact with physicians, patients, patient families, community agencies, patient care staff and management.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
Assists physicians during special radiologic procedures requiring experience and advanced training in the Cath lab. Serves as a resource person for other personnel regarding hemodynamic monitoring and radiation safety. These procedures vary in advanced diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures requiring experience and advanced training in the cardiac cath lab. Such procedures include, but are not limited to, coronary angiograms, PTCAs, peripheral and coronary artery stent placements, pediatric and adult heart catheterizations, peripheral PTAs, ICD implants, PPM implants, electrophysiology studies, EP mapping, EP ablation, valvuloplastie, structural heart procedures, and laser procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists the physician with imaging during diagnosis and treatment of cardiac cath lab patients of diverse ages. Ensures quality of imaging and image acquisition, DSA, and hemodynamic monitoring. Ensures radiation safety practices are used for patients and personnel.
- Proficient with aseptic technique and assists physician with scrubbing during procedure. Transport patients to and from the cath lab. May apply manual pressure to puncture site to obtain hemostasis following procedures.
- Assists with technical utilization of physiologic monitoring/data devices in the cath lab. Calibrates physiologic and monitoring devices. Prepares appropriate forms to document procedural data. Prepares and maintains physiological data after completion of each procedure.
- Sets up trays for procedures using sterile technique.
- Assists physician with scrubbing during and after procedure.
- Prepares skin and drapes patient for procedure using aseptic technique.
- Acquires supplies needed for procedures and may pass to physician or assistant maintaining sterile technique. Assists in maintaining inventory control.
- Administers CPR, defibrillation, Ambu, etc. as ordered by physician during procedure.
- Transports patients to and from procedure rooms. Reports status of hemostasis of puncture site(s) to nurse. May apply clamp or manual pressure to puncture site(s).
- Patient and family education of cath lab procedures and documents of patient medical record.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Cross-trains in other job functions as needed.
- Participates on committees as assigned.
- Serves as resource for training and instructing personnel in Cath Lab Tech role.

- Cleans and inspects for proper functioning a variety of patient care equipment returned for processing.
- Inspects, cleans and assembles surgical and standard instruments according to established procedures. Prepares, cleans, wraps, and sterilizes instrument trays for surgery, emergency room, medical/surgical floor, labor and delivery. Inspects folds and assembles sterile linen packs.
- Distributes sterile instruments to units. Inventories and restocks supply par levels on units within their area of responsibility.
- Assists maintaining proper inventory of sterile supplies for surgery.
- Knowledgeable in sterilization techniques by steam, gas or Steris. Knowledgeable in operation of equipment for these sterilization methods. Performs biological and chemical monitoring according to procedure. Maintains records of sterilization operation.

- Follows the dress code for the department.
- Maintains good attendance record. Arrives to work punctually.

In addition, have the LMRT skill set to perform diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing state of the art imaging equipment in a multi-faceted environment. While performing radiographic procedures within the scope of licensure, LMRT will be able to utilize the imaging equipment and utilize the appropriate exposure factors to ensure a high quality of imaging. All imaging will be performed with minimal supervision and strictly adhere to the established practice and safety standards of CHI St. Luke’s Health.
When the incumbent is not assigned to perform in the LMRT role, they are expected to fulfill all expectations and responsibilities of the Medical Assistant position.

- Reports “near misses” and inputs errors promptly improve processes and identify trends. Contributes to identification of corrective actions and improvement activities, and contributes to meeting departmental and hospital targets for quality and safety.
- Ensures all imaging equipment has had QC performed as required and is in safe working order prior to use. Reports any equipment issues to leadership and contacts.
- Enters charges at the time service is delivered and ensures correct charges are entered for the procedure performed.
- Maintains current certification in LMRT and stays up to date with all policies and procedures.
- Verifies Patient chart for valid orders, date and time of scheduled procedure, priority, physician’s notes, and ordering comments. Enter/update patient information in Electronic Medical Record (EPIC Radiant) in accordance with established protocols and procedures.
- Ensures and maintains compliance with LMRT scope of practice to include only performing procedures to which license applies.
