Pay Scale: $40.47 - $61.91   Shift:  M-F 6:45am - 5:15pm + call   Job Summary:   Under the direction of the Surgical Services Nursing Director, the Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) is a registered nurse with specialized education.  The development of specific technical skills enables the RNFA to assist the surgeon with specific intraoperative procedures that are beyond the scope of practice for registered nurses without RNFA education and training.  Intraoperatively, the RNFA functions interdependently with the surgeon and applies knowledge, skill and judgment necessary to assist the surgeon in performing a safe operation that yields optimal results for the patient. This position requires on-call with a 30 minute response time. The RNFA is under the continuous, direct and on-site supervision of the physician performing the surgical procedure.  The RNFA shall not be expected to replace or assume the responsibilities of the physician performing the surgical procedure.   Essential Duties:   - Applies nursing process to direct patient care through assessment, analysis of collected data, development of a plan of care and implementation and evaluation of effectiveness of nursing interventions/actions in relation to intended goal. - Provides adequate information and instruction to the patient, family and significant other. - Provides for an environment conducive to patient and staff safety.
