JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values, this position is established to actively participate on the patient care team by providing basic bedside care including obtaining IV access via a peripheral, external jugular, or intra-osseous route, phlebotomy, administering ACLS/PALS medications and associated procedures in a code situation, administering IV crystalloid solutions per physician order, and obtaining EKGs as well as assisting patients with activities of daily living, under the direction of the RN.  Paramedics will also be allowed to perform tracheal intubation under the direction of the physician covering the ER.  There will be a skills lab every six months with a designated provider to maintain intubation competency. JOB SUMMARY • Provides professional patient care and transportation in accordance with all departmental and St. Joseph Health System operating policies, city and state laws, and applicable contracts. ACCOUNTABILITIES • ESSENTIAL 1. Personal, crew, patient and bystanders safety: Scene size up, emergency scenes are dynamic events; the Paramedic should always look out first for their safety and then the safety of others. 2. Patient Assessment and delivery of care: Provides patient care functions according to protocol, procedure and written directives to level of certification. Performs a patient assessment throughout a call on every patient encountered, providing appropriate treatment and transportation decisions. 3. Maintains and improves skill level and knowledge base: Attends/participates in 75% of annual departmental training and completion of annual Skills Competency Fair. 4. Lifting and moving patients: Ensure proper lifting, moving patients safely and effectively. 5. Transport and Transfer of Care: Verifies patient identification prior to transport, contacts receiving facility prior to delivery along with providing a patient care report, also providing safe delivery to or from the hospital and aircraft. Transfer the patient to the appropriate facility and health care provider giving complete/accurate verbal patient care report. Assures geographic knowledge of service area (communities, towns, cities and counties), utilizing appropriate map/GPS reading skills. 6. Record keeping and data collection: Neatly and accurately completes written and electrical Patient Care Reports (ePCR), leaves a copy of the transported patient's report at every facility - ED. 7. Patient Advocacy: Assist patient with special concerns that will need to be brought to hospital personnel's attention (i.e. geriatric patient who may require additional home care). 8. Completes daily equipment checks and maintenance: Assures equipment readiness, including cleaning as needed or required, along with proficiency in equipment operation safely, repairs within scope of abilities, and reports deficiencies when noticed to supervisor and relief crew. Checks MediTech, HealthEMS and other information devices while on duty daily. • OTHER 0. Performs other duties as assigned to meet the organization`s needs. 1. Have had no disciplinary issue (counseling) within the last 6 months. Received a score of 3 or greater on the most recent Annual Performance Evaluation. Have had fewer than 5 Attendance occasions in a rolling 12 month period. Must have acted as an instructor for X (tbd) # of courses such as PALS, ACLS, CPR etc. Must have submitted a sample lesson plan for training program and executed the plan (Options include PALS, ACLS, CPR, etc. May include training program for competency fair) 2. MUST COMPLETE 3 OUT OF 4 OPTIONS BELOW: Picks up at least 5 extra shifts (on home unit, other unit, or as a sitter) each year. Act as a preceptor/ Able to develop and train Level I & II. Earns an additional certification relevant to current job, but not required by the current position’s qualifications. Performs 6 hours CEU’s per year (outside of hours required to retain license).
