The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for assisting the Pharmacist in the operations related to Compounding intravenous admixtures for patients.  This includes managing IV room and compounding equipment and controlled environments.  Pharmacy preparation of IV medications is high risk because of the irretrievability and the extended beyond-use dating, which exponentially increases the potential to introduce contaminants and cause life-threatening infections in patients.    The pharmacy technician II has a thorough knowledge of USP 797/800 and AR Board of Pharmacy regulations, and is responsible for maintaining the controlled work environment, including performing and documenting disinfection and cleaning of the IV rooms, anterooms, buffer areas, laminar airflow workbenches (LAWs), and Compounding Aseptic Isolators (CAIs). The pharmacy technician II also monitors and documents controlled environmental conditions, such as particle counts, temperature, air pressure, and humidity. The pharmacy technician II understands the basis and consistently follows regulations regarding donning and doffing, aseptic technique, etc.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Perform all duties of a pharmacy technician in accordance with established policies and procedures related to the preparation and distribution of medication - Perform duties required to restock IV room - Perform duties required in processing IV credits, restocking returns, and documenting waste - Perform duties required for preparation and dispensing of IV solutions - Perform duties required for narcotic distribution and assist in discrepancy resolution - Answer phone and determine order status; triage calls for appropriate resolution - Ensure current dating of all supplies and medications - Assist in training new personnel - Maintain all records and documents in accordance with state and federal regulations
