Job Summary: This job is responsible for providing direct patient care in the ICU setting within the CNA job scope.  This job is also responsible for order transcription and order entry as well as all other HUC roles.  This job is also responsible for all telemetry-monitoring functions in the ICU and across the facility.  The job exists to provide patient care as part of the team, meet regulatory standards for monitoring cardiac function. Monitors patient’s cardiac rhythms and/or oxygen saturation using appropriate cardiac monitoring equipment; obtains a baseline ECG strip on all monitored patients according to department guidelines; records and posts cardiac strips in accordance with established procedures; may replaces electrode pads, wires and batteries as necessary. Updates and verifies patient data in information system; maintains unit/department specific records as assigned. Recognizes rhythms with the potential to alter the patient’s physiology and obtains a documentary ECG strip; immediately reports all arrhythmias to the RN responsible for the patient in accordance with established protocols. Maintains current knowledge of the technical operation and capabilities of the central monitoring station; maintains alarm systems according to established protocols and responds appropriately to monitor alarms; identifies/troubleshoots routine technical problems with the monitors and sends work orders for maintenance/clinical engineering repairs as necessary. Handles incoming and outgoing communications, answers questions and assists staff in accordance with established procedures. Maintains a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management and Regulatory Standards and if applicable infection prevention.  Maintains a neat and organized work environment; orders, stocks and replenishes supplies and equipment as necessary; identifies and reports problems with supplies or equipment; enters equipment repair requests in system, tags equipment and removes from service. You'll provide the care that is required to meet the personal primary needs and comfort of your patients based upon your scope of practice, skills, and abilities. - Preparing patients, equipment, and supplies for specific procedures and examinations. - Performing, monitoring, reporting, and documenting clinical activities within your scope of practice. This includes observing and reporting changes in your patients' condition to the RN. This also includes obtaining, labeling, and transporting samples (e.g., urine, stool, sputum specimens, and blood products); providing patient information to the nursing staff so that it will be included in the plan of care, and documenting patient data. - Assisting nursing staff with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges by inventorying and storing patients' belongings, providing patients with personal care items, orienting patients and their families, and transporting patients using wheelchairs, stretchers, or patient beds. - Maintaining a neat and organized work environment, ordering, stocking, and replenishing supplies and equipment as necessary, identifying and reporting problems with supplies or equipment; entering equipment repair requests in the system, tagging equipment, and removing it from service. - Maintaining a safe work and patient environment, adhering to the hospital’s Safety, Risk Management, Regulatory Standards, and infection prevention. - Participating in quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives and activities as well as your own professional learning and growth opportunities. - Demonstrating cultural sensitivity and cultural competence by using communication tools and materials for effective communication and understanding how the cultures of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration, and the provision of care, treatment, and services.  NOTE:  Registered Nursing Assistant:  Employees who do not have CNA certification (but otherwise meet the qualifications of the core job) must be assigned to this classification. You must have completed the required 40 hours of clinical experience.  You must provide proof of application and/or pending examination for CNA certification which must be obtained within 120 days from the date of hire.
