Responsible for the delivery of excellence in patient care through assessing, formulating nursing diagnoses and establishing goals, planning and implementing intervention and evaluating patient care practice as defined by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas. Responsible for the outcomes. With the staff nurse's professional practice he/she responsible for participating in and maintaining quality, cost effectiveness and guest relations. Provide patient care in compliance with hospital policies and procedures and the standards of professional nursing
- Responsible for supervising nursing units in the absence of unit managers.
- Active participant of calculating and monitoring Hours Per Patient Days along with acuity of patients, in relationship to staffing units accurately, safely, and cost effective under the direction of the unit manager.
- Utilizes nursing personnel effectively, assists with required scheduling, staffing and assignments, and collaborates with other department managers/supervisors/charge to ensure smooth coordination of services to patients, enhances patient flow within the facility, and efficient admission/discharge/transfer processes
- Receives report from off-going shift, give report to oncoming shift, and makes rounds
- Open on-going dialog with unit managers.
- Practices safe work habits, compliance with safety rules and regulations, and adheres to safety policies 7.Utilizes resources appropriately and follows facility guidelines, policies, and procedures
- Must be able to step in to assist staff in response to work load or staffing demands.
- Maintains clinical exposure through actual intervention, coordination of patient care, role modeling, consulting, problem solving, and in-services.

Job Summary

- Provides effective mentoring and acclimation of staff. Assists with administrative duties, education activities and quality initiatives.

Operations
- Assists in managing and evaluating the clinical operations, programs and resources of the assigned clinical area/facility to assure the safe and appropriate delivery of diagnostic and/or therapeutic patient care. Ensures that all activities within assigned shift are conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner and in compliance with organizational values, professional standards, internal policies and applicable regulatory requirements. Participates in the development of, and implements new clinical systems/programs to enhance existing services and raise the standard of care for the patient population served. Ensures that work unit activities, productivity, and/or quality indicators are documented in accordance with FHS guidelines. Collaborates with other departments to address and resolve problems, share information and enhance overall effectiveness/productivity. Communicates significant information to department Manager/Director and others in a timely and appropriate manner.
Staff Management and Development
- Plans, manages and evaluates the work of clinical and administrative staff in accordance with the content, spirit and intent of applicable internal/external regulations and standards for human resource management. Ensures that employees are qualified and properly trained to perform assigned job duties. Holds regular staff meetings and keeps employees apprised of all matters relevant to successful job performance. Makes employment decisions, provides input for establishing performance standards and evaluates employee performance. Educates, guides, counsels and develops staff and addresses performance management concerns and technical issues elevated by subordinates as beyond their scope of authority.
Regulatory Compliance
- Assesses, on a continuous basis, services, patient outcomes, quality control, family/patient satisfaction, staffing needs and operational effectiveness to ensure optimal care delivery. Keeps abreast of and assesses impact of changing regulatory requirements/regulation, clinical/professional standards, changing customer demographics and competitive industry practices impacting assigned functions, as well as organizational initiatives/changes with potential to impact current strategies, programs and resources. Determines nature/scope of impact on existing activities and determines effective response/solution while maintaining acceptable service levels and work quality. Ensures that internal controls are sufficient to provide for accurate, complete and compliant programs and processes. Identifies needs for changes in standards, programs and services, and develops recommendations for consideration by the Manager/Director.
Performance/Quality Improvement
- Works with management team to ensure the application of consistent operational and clinical practices. Assesses the strengths/weaknesses of the assigned shift clinical area/facility to identify opportunities and provide recommendations to Manager/Director for new quality/performance improvement initiatives. Implements new processes and ensures that performance improvement activities are conducted in a timely and effective manner. Ensures staff receives the necessary on-site training and consultation to enhance their understanding of quality/performance improvement initiatives.
Budget
- Identifies adequate staffing levels for appropriate coverage to meet budgetary and operational objectives. Monitors work schedules and staffing levels to meet budgetary requirements and control overtime and/or premium pay. Informs Manager/Director of all issues with potential for budgetary impact.
Short- and Long-Term Planning
- Participates, as a key member of the management team for the assigned clinical function, in the development of strategies, initiatives and programs addressing matters such as: provision of new services, standardization of procedures across the organization, maximizing resources, improving cost-effectiveness of clinical services provided, enhancing patient outcomes/satisfaction and other issues of similar complexity and consequence.
Cultural Sensitivity and Competence
- Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department’s defined specific populations served.

Assumes primary responsibility for overseeing, coordinating and facilitating comprehensive care delivery in all clinical areas during designated shifts. Serves as in-house administration after business hours and on weekends/holidays. Assumes delegated nursing administrative responsibilities in the absences of the director and/or Vice President. Assist directors in providing resources and monitors the productivity of the team. Serves as the communication link between the care team and directors. Participates in operationalizing CHI Health Strategic Initiatives and serves as a role model for ethical management. Supports a professional practice philosophy within a shared governance system that supports the hospital mission and nursing vision.
- Has the authority to interview, hire, orient, terminate, promote, train and conduct performance evaluations.
- Assigns day-to-day work activities; directs the functional and technical job performance of team members.
- Allocate and direct staffing needs to meet patient, unit, and department needs, and collaborate with others to ensure overall staffing needs are met.
- Responsible for the coordination and support of patient activity and safe practices in all clinical areas on the designated shift.
- Oversight for placement of all admissions on designated shift. All hospital EMTALA transfers requests are discussed/coordinated through the House Supervisor.
- Responsible for facilitating unit triaging during times of peak census. When high census or ICU contingency plans are imminent, coordinates decisions with Directors, Medical Director, Vice President and Administrator on-call as appropriate.
- Responds to high risk situations, provides direction, supports and assists as necessary toward problem resolution in a timely manner.
- Coordinates daily staffing adjustments to maintain safe and effective care. Works with Department Director as necessary to resolve assignment issues.

Responsible for the administrative, clinical, technical, coordination of staff, equipment, and supplies for wound care center. Communicates and problem solves with all members of the team to facilitate the best possible outcomes for patients, physicians, and the department. Engages in twice daily huddles (morning and afternoon) with appropriate staff to review case loads, determine appropriate staffing ratios, and assign staffing schedules. Collaborates with Clinic Administrator and providers to enhance operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment, ensure optimal healing outcomes and high quality patient care. Works with staff to ensure efficient and timely scheduling of patients, insurance verification, charge entry, discharge of medical records and patient flow. May perform HBO related duties.

- Maintains consistent communication and status of room availability, case load, and staff availability
- Ensures record-keeping of physician/staff adherence to specified block schedule and associated bylaws
- Ensures physicians are notified of patient arrival as agreed upon with the Governance Committee
- In conjunction with management, Establishes consistent standards for timely and efficient room turnover, on time starts and holds staff accountable to benchmark
- Within the scope of responsibility, Functions as an extra person to fill gaps in service when and where needed
- Conducts staff rounding and reports results to management

- Assigns preceptor, and Oversees staff competency and training needs in cooperation with education staff
