Uses care in handling instruments, identifies heat sensitive items, and separates delicate items to prevent damage. Checks the condition of scopes prior to use. Ensures that appropriate sterilization indicators and filters are placed in the instrument pan(s) prior to sterilization. Consistently follows specified checklist when cleaning and processing scopes. Knowledgeable of the basic use of various scopes. Removes used scopes from room promptly for sterilization. Keeps accurate records of Cidex efficiency logs.  Fills logs daily. Follows cleaning procedure per manufacturer’s instructions. Maintains established inventory supplies. Displays knowledge in identifying all types of scopes. Able to assist in the training of new employees.    COMPETENCY TO MAINTAIN AN ENVIRONMENT THAT SUPPORTS ASEPSIS AND SAFETY Understands and practices basis aseptic principles. Understands the importance of precisely following guidelines for sterilization and loading washer as outlined by policy and procedure. Culture scopes as needed. Notify Biomed of repair needs for scopes and medivators. Checks and maintain Cidex efficiency logs between each case on a daily basis. Performs on a daily basis appropriate testing for sterilizers according to manufacturer’s. Prepares cleaning solution accurately and maintains adequate level of cleaner in washer. Practices good personal hygiene. Understands and complies with infection control policies and procedures such as hand washing, containment of infections agents/materials. Attends in-service programs and complies with general safety guidelines, fire safety rules, hazard communications, emergency codes and procedures. Uses care in operating all equipment and carts; sinks are cleaned. Sterilizer drains are free of debris and cleaned daily. Removes and dispose of dirty linen in the appropriate area at the end of each shift. Manage the operations of the housekeeping function on a specific shift and/or a specific area of the hospital to insure a clean, safe and germ free environment.   Displays a positive image of Saint Joseph Hospital by demonstrating courteous and professional behavior towards patients, physicians, visitors, volunteers and other employees.   Essential Key Job Responsibilities - The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible to the Director of Environmental Services and supervises Housekeeper I’s and II’s. - Maintains daily contact with co-workers and managers. May have contact with repair people, vendors, senior hospital executives, physicians/medical staff, and patients/families.  Requires a normal, responsive relationship indicating sensitivity to other people. - Must maintain as confidential information gained in the process of doing one’s own work. - Must demonstrate the ability to cooperate with others. - Follows infection control practices and safety practices in all activities. - Activities include: managing shift changes, performing inspections, training employees, completing and issuing performance appraisals, scheduling, monitoring and controlling use of supplies and equipment, filling out necessary forms and paperwork, enforcing policy and procedure compliance, ensuring excellent customer relations. - Duties also include: performing duties of a housekeeper (cleaning floors; damp dusting furniture and fixtures; making and cleaning patient beds; cleaning, emptying ash urns and waste receptacles; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and lights; changing light bulbs; performing non-routine floor care duties (buffing, shampooing, etc.);inspecting, replacing curtains, cubicles; checking, stocking soap, paper supplies; hauling out trash, moving furniture. - Safe Handling/Disposal/Packaging for Transport of Pharmaceutical Waste/Hazardous Materials/Bio-Hazardous Regulated Medical Waste. 1.) Completes the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) and Hazardous Waste education during new employee orientation and annually. 2.) is knowledgeable of the process for identifying the proper waste stream and uses the appropriate container to dispose of waste. 3.) Responds to a release of hazardous chemicals or hazardous pharmaceuticals (P-listed waste) utilizing the facility hazardous waste contingency plan. 4.) Knowledgeable regarding the process to contact the emergency response coordinator for hazardous waste/pharmaceutical release/spill clean-up. - Other duties as assigned.

Routinely follows schedule for floor dusting/vacuuming and wet mopping. Routinely follows schedule for checkout cleaning.    Restroom Cleaning Thoroughly cleans all fixtures with germicidal solution. Ensures all paper supplies and hand soaps are replaced when necessary. Performs proper dust mopping and wet mopping. Performs proper high dusting and sanitizing. Empties trash containers and keeps containers interior and exterior clean.   Office/Department Cleaning Routinely follows schedule for high dusting and sanitizing. Routinely follows schedule for trash removal – keeps containers interior and exterior clean. Routinely follows schedule for floor dusting/vacuuming and wet moping.   Equipment Care And Maintenance Cleans all equipment used and shift’s end and restocks cleaning cart. Wraps vacuum cords neatly, checks daily and replaces vacuum bags as needed. Takes electrically powered equipment out of service and notifies supervision immediately when problems with machinery are found.   Departmental/Job Skills Follows clocking in/out and signing in/out instructions. Obtains and returns pager as appropriate. Appropriately responds to all pager and/or telephone calls/instructions. Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Follows schedules and assignments as issued. Remains flexible with work schedules and accepts assignments in other areas. Attends all mandatory hospital and department inservices/meetings. Removes trash collected to appropriate trash area.  Follows all regulatory guidelines. Responds to spills and emergencies as directed. Utilizes wet floor signs appropriately. Mixes and uses chemicals correctly and safely. Utilizes bed-tracking system. Practices safety precautions at all times. Performs additional duties as assigned by hospital/departmental supervision or management
