- Sanitize and disinfect specific areas such as patient rooms, nurse stations, waiting areas, meeting rooms, offices, corridors, and common areas.
- Contribute to hospital efficiency and integrity by maintaining quality cleanliness in accordance with hospital and CDC guidelines.
- Understand and utilize all safety guidelines and procedures when using cleaning chemicals and disposing of hazardous materials.
- Inventory and ensure proper storage of hazardous materials for ignitability (flammable), corrosivity (rust), reactivity (explosive), toxicity(poison), etc.
- Appropriately display signage to prevent injuries of patients, employees, and visitors.

Job Summary:
Provides basic and specialty cleaning services to all areas of the hospital, including patient rooms, offices, hallways, floors and public environments (as assigned) in order to maintain the hospital in a sanitary, safe and attractive condition. Incumbents also collect and transport infectious and regular trash. Incumbents may also be responsible for unloading, replenishing and distributing linen goods according to pre-established quota and par-levels and removing soiled linen from chute rooms and/or other designated areas. Work is performed independently and in accordance with FHS standards and procedures.
Essential Duties:
- Performs daily cleaning and/or linen delivery tasks as assigned, following all FHS policies and procedures. Cleaning tasks may include, but are not limited to: dusting, cleaning and disinfecting vents, furniture, woodwork, bathroom fixtures, showers, whirlpools and portable equipment; washing and making beds; cleaning and disinfecting operating and delivery rooms; washing ceilings and walls; sweeping and mopping hallways, stairwells and public areas; cleaning sinks and toilets; spot-cleaning, shampooing and/or vacuuming carpets. Performs work operating manual, battery-powered and electric equipment. Cleans and maintains equipment such as cleaning cart and janitor’s closet. May unload clean linen carts, deliver linen supplies, stock linens and remove soiled linens as assigned. May order weekly cleaning supplies and chemicals for assigned areas.
- Wears prescribed protective gear (i.e., gloves, goggles) appropriate to assignment and observes and participates in all hospital-required Safety, Risk Management, and Infection Control practices, including hand washing/hand sanitizing protocols.
- Gathers and disposes of garbage, waste, soiled linen and infectious and regular trash in the prescribed manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives and safety and infection control standards.
- Cleans and disinfects fixtures, furniture, floors, walls, sinks, toilets, tubs, waste containers and equipment in assigned work area.
- Wet mops, dust mops or vacuums floors in rooms, halls stairways and public areas. Spot cleans carpeting.
- Gathers and disposes of trash and waste material using appropriate bags and containers.
- Replenishes area with supplies of soap, papers, and other cleaning supplies as needed.
- Performs discharge cleaning procedures of patient rooms and prepares room for new occupant.
- Cleans vents, windows, light fixtures, walls and other high areas using a ladder.
- Prepares soiled linen for pickup for laundry service by placing in carts and moving to pickup area. Uses appropriate bags for contaminated linen.
- Receives processed linens from laundry service. Unloads, inspects sorts and places on storage shelves. Assembles and delivers linens required for specific departments according to needs and present supply.
- Participates in educational and in-service programs and attends meetings as required.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required.
- Buffs, strips, waxes and polishes hard floors, operating mechanical floor scrubbers.
- Unpacks new linen, dates, and stamps wit hospital logo.
- May be called in to perform emergency cleaning after normal working hours.
- Performs other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Follows infection control practices and safety practices in all activities.
• Activities include: cleaning floors; damp dusting furniture and fixtures; making and cleaning patient beds; cleaning and emptying ash urns and waste receptacles; washing windows, walls, ceilings, vents and lights; changing light bulbs; performing non-routine floor care duties (buffing, shampooing, etc.); inspecting and replace curtains and cubicles; checking and stocking soap and paper supplies; hauling out trash; moving furniture; and using various cleaning equipment, carts and products.

- Will wash, scrub, dust, polish, vacuum, mop, disinfect patient rooms, treatment/exam rooms, clean bathrooms; scrub sinks and showers; service and clean staff areas, offices, corridors, utility rooms, tiles, windows, blinds, furniture, mirrors, fixtures, walls, doors, refrigerators, etc., empties wastepaper baskets and replenishes supplies, such as paper towels, toilet tissue, soap, etc
- Properly handles chemicals per MSDS and uses the proper personal protection equipment.
- Upon dismissal of a patient, in addition to above, strip the room, properly dispose of linen and trash, clean and disinfect bed, frame, mattress and pillow, remake bed, (follow Policies and Procedures for discharge unit.)
- Maintains supplies for area, keeping cart properly stocked and neat, organizes areas, records terminal cleaning of dismissals on chart at Nurses’ station, report light bulbs that need replacing, broken or malfunctioning equipment, furniture or other items requiring repair.
- Properly labels and removes infectious waste bags and containers.
- Upon Department Head request will train employees. Will keep Department Head apprised of trainee progress.
- Maintains equipment i.e., carts, vacuums, etc. keeping them clean and in good working order. Reports malfunctioning equipment and items needing repair in a timely manner.
- Participates in replacing sharp containers, transports trash and refuse and removes empty boxes.
- Cross trains and works in Linen Distribution as needed by the department
