Position Summary
Performs a variety of routine tasks to support the delivery of safe, effective, cost-efficient patient care as delegated by the RN. They provide assistance in transporting, transferring and lifting. They perform cleaning functions in patient care unit as delegated, and perform selected diagnostic tests.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provides direct patient care as delegated by RN staff
- Monitors and records vital signs
- Assists in providing personal hygiene and physical care needs
- Accurately measures, records, and reports intake and output
- Obtains and records daily weight
- Performs blood glucose testing using blood glucose meter
- Reports changes in patient’s status promptly to RN
- Performs as patient care companion when needed
- Assists in the admission, transfer and discharge process
- Performs unit housekeeping needs.
- Acts as a runner/transporter
- Acts as receptionist for unit; has limited use of the hospital information systems according to hospital policy dependent on the need of unit
- Checks and documents refrigerator temperatures as delegated, reporting variances to appropriate personnel
- Updates assigned bed status
- Answers call lights and telephone
- Keeps patient environment clean, Performs comfort rounds, keeps hallways clear of obstruction, reports safety issues and broken equipment appropriately, and adheres to patient safety precautions
- Communicates with patient’s family, physicians, and unit personnel and peers in an accurate, courteous, and professional manner

- Prepare, clean and sterilize instruments and maintain equipment/supplies that comply with quality of care while maintaining budget. Keep patient exam rooms stocked, clean and orderly; dispose of contaminated items according to protocol, and may need to maintain a safe and clean laboratory.
- Following completion of training and competency validation may be required to collect blood samples from patients and prepare specimens for lab analysis, perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) - waived and non-waived (moderate complexity) Point-of-care (POC) laboratory tests and procedures and perform Electrocardiograms (EKG).
- May schedule patients for diagnostic testing and follow up to ensure completion of testing.
- Provide for patient safety and protection of patient privacy rights, and ensure safety checklists/quality controls are completed as required.
- Must have the ability to handle work fluctuations and escalate non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns to the Practice Manager or healthcare provider(s).
- May safely transport patients using appropriate equipment within the facility, and follow emergency procedures including CPR, if necessary.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Practice Manager, Nursing staff or as requested by healthcare provider(s).

Job Summary / Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Health Care Provider, responsible for the delivery of general patient care that promotes the safety and well-being of all patients, by following established standards and procedures. Accurately performs preliminary physical tests such as: blood pressure, height/weight, temperature, pulse/respirations and other measures as directed by established clinical protocols. Assist with basic patient care, helping patients with activities of daily living and collaborates with other clinic staff to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Assists with general patient care following established clinic workflows.
Greets and prepares patients for the health care provider by completing intake duties such as documenting the patient’s reason for visit, obtaining and recording vital signs, reviewing documented drug allergies, asking if patient taking medications listed in EMR, and completing appropriate screening questionnaires.
Collects and prepares ordered specimens for laboratory analysis.
Cleans and sterilizes instruments.
Ensures patient exam rooms are stocked, clean, and orderly.
Escalates non-routine issues, questions and/or concerns timely and appropriately.
Ensures required safety checklists and quality controls are completed and action taken if indicated.
Performs other duties assigned within Medical Support Assistant role.
POSITION SUMMARY

JOB SUMMARY:
