The person serving in the position of Operating Engineer is responsible for operating and maintaining one or more high pressure gas, oil or wood fired boilers and such auxiliary equipment as steam turbines, air compressors, and generators, water softeners that provide steam, electrical power and auxiliary services. Observes meters and gauges to determine operating condition of equipment and to regulate flow of water and fuel in accordance with needs and safety standards. Adjusts and repairs equipment.  Cleans or supervises cleaning of boilers and other equipment.
