BHETS is a 24/7 service. This role serves as the first point of contact for emergency departments, healthcare facilities, and community-based physicians/providers to coordinate emergent transfers and acute admissions to CHI Health tertiary hospitals. Work involves triage of requests made by referring providers for transfer and direct admission for patients with acute conditions to then utilize appropriate acceptance and bed placement guidelines to ensure easy access to CHI Health hospital services and providers. Responsible for facilitating acceptance, bed assignment, transport and other care team notifications and documenting all actions. Also responsible for follow-up communication to customers, escalation procedures when delays are experienced and reviewing call data for quality assurance. It’s easy to forget that, in some cases, a patient’s decline in physical health can negatively impact their mental health as well, but that doesn’t mean their treatment is any less complex. Psych nursing offers skilled nurses the opportunity to care for vulnerable patients and themselves through self-reflection, and introspection. In essence, these nurses and patients find strength in each other.   Patients on this unit are dealing with difficult diagnoses. Our ideal nursing candidate will have the proven ability to exercise patience, flexibility, and careful listening when their efforts are often tested. This nurse will strive to calm patients when they become agitated, strengthen patients coping skills, and make it a build a therapeutic, meaningful relationship.   All Registered Nurses answer their call to care for others through education and training, but only a select few have the ability and confidence to test their preparation in a service line where challenges and the rewards run high.
