Provides clinical information to third party payors in the following ways: 1) concurrent telephonic review 2) retrospective telephonic review 3) faxing information to HealthSource Arkansas at admission and discharge 4) faxing information to other agencies when requested Contacts physicians as needed regarding utilization issues and/or discharge planning. Retrieves voice mail and answers pages within 30 minutes while on duty. 2. DOCUMENTATION Documents accurately and completely information related to third party authorization of hospital services. Completes list each morning of planned calls to third party payors. Completes “Managed Care Log” completely, specifying number of days, approval codes, and next review date. Completes avoidable day form as indicated. 3. APPROPRIATENESS Ensures appropriateness of continued hospital care for all patients according to established guidelines and intervenes as indicated. Cases are reviewed using the appropriate payor criteria for the following: 1) level of care 2) medical necessity 3) readiness for discharge Reviews record of all HMO patients on observation status and intervenes as needed. Reviews Medicare charts under direction of RN case manager and intervenes when indicated. 4. PRODUCTIVITY/QUALITY The daily caseload and other responsibilities are effectively managed to meet department expectations (quantity, quality, timeliness).
