The hospitalist physician extender will provide patient services under the direction of the supervising hospitalist. The APN/PA will have the opportunity to consult with the supervising hospitalist or the back-up supervising hospitalist at all times, in compliance with state regulations and hospital bylaws.  The position works autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to provide a continuum of health care needs.  The position will report to the St. Vincent hospitalist medical director.  - Functions within the scope of practice as defined within state regulations. The APN/PA scope of practice will be defined by the collaborative agreement as completed with the collaborating physician.  -  Adheres to patient confidentiality, infection prevention, safety and security measures, and all other hospital policies and procedures. - Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members in providing medical care for the patient. JOB SUMMARY: In accordance with our mission and core values and under the supervision of Manager-Behavioral Health, the Behavioral Health Therapist Coordinator will review the workload assignments of the Behavioral Therapists and Discharge Specialists. The coordinator will utilize advanced practitioner skills to intervene in complex patient care situations. The coordinator will assess, evaluate and train therapists and discharge specialists to achieve a consistently high quality of excellence in Behavioral Health.  The coordinator will act as a resource for physicians, nurses and other departments in the hospital when intervention is required. The coordinator will have input into program planning program evaluation. The coordinator will also participate in the interviewing process for therapists and provide feedback for the evaluation process.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   - HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT - Works with Behavioral Therapists on a daily basis to insure optimum productivity and quality of care. - Facilitates staff completing assignments within the designated time limits. - Utilizes staffing in the responsible manner both fiscally and clinically. - Participates with the manager in the interviewing, hiring, and orientating of new therapists, as well as probationary and annual performance evaluation.   - FISCAL MANAGEMENT - Assists in the development of policies and procedures, and training in any new local, state or national standards, policies or laws. - - Serves as a resource for all customers in regard to standards and best practices within own area of expertise. - Helps project capital needs for operational and capital budgets. - Works with behavioral health manager marketing program and services through community outreach. - Serves as the indigent liaison to all community mental health centers throughout the state, ensuring that appropriate information is disseminated to secure authorization for payment. Troubleshoots potential problems with community mental health centers concerning these clients during admission and prior to discharge.   - MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION AND SUPPORT - Maintains an understanding of the department's processes and effectively communicates information to the staff. - Serves as mental health court liaison. Attends court as needed for our patients. Capable of using EHR Exercises professional judgment in performance of services and maintains a demeanor complimentary to medical ethics. Documents pertinent medical history from patient on radiology request form. Completes appropriate forms correctly: Time Out Pregnancy Statement Medication Reconciliation Uses immobilizing devices as required by the patient’s age, condition or the procedure as determined by patient assessment. Using professional judgment: Performs the procedure as ordered with proper and appropriate indications for procedure. Modifies procedure as required through knowledge gained by patient assessment without compromising diagnostic or therapeutic outcome.   Communication: Ensures that communication supports the plan of patient care. Communicates clearly with patients of all ages, peers and others in order to complete the hospital/physician plan of patient care. Notifies the patient’s attending physician or Radiologist of any patient issues that affect the plan of patient care as directed within the time frames identified in the Radiology Policy Manual. Or notifies the nurse on the patient’s unit or the physician’s office nurse if the physician is not available. Explains procedure to patient in detail.   Procedures: Provides appropriate patient care during the correct performance of radiologic procedures. Performs appropriate patient care conditions essential for completion of the procedure for patients of all ages. Performs CT radiologic procedures on patients of all ages properly, according to the Radiology Procedure Manual standard of obtaining diagnostic images. Safely transports wheelchair, stretcher and ambulatory patients as needed. Documents technical factors on all procedures immediately upon completion of the procedure. Performs venipuncture under the supervision of a physician on patients of all ages. Performs clerical tasks to support the patient plan of care. Assist the Radiologist within the radiographer’s scope of practice as directed by the physician. Assist with Quality Improvement. Promptly responds to on-call procedures (30 minutes).   Education: Provides education for students, patients, self and others appropriate for the age that is being served. Provides clinical supervision for student Radiographers. Participates in student clinical competency evaluation by completing: Weekly student evaluations. Evaluates student clinical competency by observing student clinical performance and documenting their competence. Pursues educational self development in order to maintain ARRT certification. Maintains self education for Arkansas State license. Completes mandatory in-services. Attends school faculty meetings or monthly department meetings. Strives for self-improvement through continuing education per specialty area. Has passed the CT registry.    Environment: Maintains a safe environment for patients, self and others. Ensure that all radiation safety standards are met for all age groups. Documents patient pregnancy statements. Notifies attending physician immediately if patient is pregnant or suspects pregnancy before performing the procedure. Modifies the procedure for pregnant patients as directed by physician using the Radiology Safety Manual Guidelines to include the use of: lead shielding. performing different or fewer images that still support the patient plan of care. Avoid any mechanical, biological, radiation or electrical hazard and report potential hazards immediately. Minimizes patient radiation exposure by proper performance and avoiding repeat radiographs. Maintains clean, well-stocked, prepared room.
