We are seeking a motivated individual to join our patient centered team.   Job Summary: This job is responsible for providing training/education to clinic patients to facilitate successful PAP/CPAP therapy and help individuals with sleep issues to maximize treatment opportunities and reduce related health risks.  An incumbent works closely with patients to monitor/analyze device readings, review compliance/progress with plan of care and self-management objectives and to eliminate barriers to maximizing the quality of care. Work also includes: 1) explaining/demonstrating use and care of assigned devices and troubleshooting to assure proper function; 2) promoting knowledge/understanding of sleep wellness/disorders/hygiene and effective treatments; 3) making digital adjustments to device/equipment based on patient needs and to optimize therapeutic value; 4) identifying device malfunctions and arranging replacement with device provider; 5) documenting all interactions in the patient's medical record in accordance with established procedures; and 6) performing device/equipment cleaning/maintenance activities. An incumbent may also occasionally perform respiratory care procedures within scope of licensure as necessary. GENERAL SUMMARY: Sets up, operates and monitors a heart-lung pump and other ancillary monitoring and life support equipment during open-heart surgery procedures.  Services the patient from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.     ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: - Sets up, operates, trouble shoots and monitors the heart-lung machine. - Sets up, operates, trouble shoots and monitors ancillary and required life support equipment - Sets up, operates, trouble shoots and monitors any cardiopulmonary related life support equipment. - Sets up, operates and monitors Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump. - Reviews extensively patient history and consult with surgeon case plan/procedure and perfusion requirements for case. - Communicates patient conditions to surgeon and anesthesia with all appropriate indications before, during and after perfusion pump runs. - Operates all related perfusion devices specific to blood conservation and patient physiologic management according to patient requirements. - Takes corrective measures when abnormal situations arise pertaining to perfusion equipment and trouble shoots the situations with ease. - Monitors closely the patient’s physiological variables such as blood temps, blood composition, flow rates, saturations, acid base balance, and all other normal body physiology throughout the perfusion care. - Proactively corrects any emergent situations in a calm, safe and controlled manner to resume a high level of critical support as quickly as possible. - Assists in the coordination of the ECMO program by organizing the training of staff and ECMO specialists with the direction of the ECMO Coordinator. - Develops ongoing education/training and competencies quarterly for ECMO specialists to include wet-lab simulations. - Takes call as required. - Assesses and documents patient response to cardiopulmonary by-pass. - Assists in moving and transport of patient. - Assists in transport of patient on an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump. - Monitors patient during transport. - Operates mini-lab and interprets results. - Moves equipment as necessary for cardiopulmonary by-pass, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump and all ancillary equipment. - Participates in cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed. - Performs record keeping functions. - Performs Quality Control and Quality Assurance activities and records the same. - Supports and participates in departmental Performance Improvement projects.   Pediatric Focus: - Attends Pediatric rounds and case conferences to directly communicate perfusion requirements to the physicians and pediatric heart team. - Reviews/updates policies, procedures and guidelines specific to current clinical practices as well as any new procedures that are incorporated into the pediatric open heart program. - Knowledges of most current data/technological advances in the field of pediatric perfusion and assists in safely initiating practices into place once pediatric heart team has approved. - Calibrates and adjusts all pediatric equipment to stay in accurate parameters to function safely and efficiently. - Maintains and exhibits knowledge of pediatric extracorporeal equipment, knowledge of applied pediatric physiology and congenital heart anatomy as well as all life supporting organs of the body, and knowledge of technical maneuvers to be applied when called upon by physicians. - Rotate call 24/7 for pediatrics as well as part of the adult call rotation.   MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: - Assures equipment is clean and in good working order. - Stocks supplies as needed. - Assists other health team members in the trial or adaptation of new ideas, techniques or technologies. - Acts as a resource person for other departments. - Participates in orientation of new employees.
